bio_* is metadata on each shape (cell, receptor, ligand, phosphorylation mark). It records biological meaning, drives consistent styling, and lets collaborators see intent — not just pixels.
BioRender is a mature paid icon library. BioPlot is plain language → editable draw.io + checkable bio_* + files you keep. We do not try to match BioRender's library size.
BioPlot adds plain-language generation, a biological stencil set with bio_*, and a rules engine for pathway layout. Plain draw.io has no biological semantics.
