What is BioPlot.ai?

BioPlot.ai is a scientific illustration tool that turns plain-language descriptions of cells, receptors, ligands, and how they activate or inhibit each other into editable draw.io pathway figures. Every biological object carries bio_* semantics. Figures export as SVG or PDF.

What file formats does BioPlot.ai output?

Native draw.io (diagrams.net) XML, plus SVG and PDF vectors. Because the geometry is real draw.io shapes—not a bitmap—you can move cells, restyle arrows, or rename receptors without regenerating the whole figure.

What is bio_* semantics?

bio_* is metadata on each shape that records whether it is a cell, receptor, ligand, phosphorylation mark, and so on—not just how it looks. It supports consistent styling and helps collaborators see what each object means.

How is BioPlot.ai different from BioRender?

BioRender is a mature paid icon library and canvas. Labs use it because it is fast; they leave because of price, publication licences, and figures that all look the same. BioPlot.ai is a different product: plain language in, native draw.io XML out, bio_* on every entity so the science can be checked, and exported vectors you keep. We do not try to match BioRender's library size. We are not a cheaper clipart subscription.

How is BioPlot.ai different from plain draw.io?

BioPlot builds on the draw.io engine and adds three capabilities draw.io does not have: natural-language pathway generation, biological parts with bio_* semantics, and a rule engine that constrains layout and style. Plain draw.io is a general drawing tool without biology semantics.

Pricing & access

How much does BioPlot.ai cost?

During the founder stage, the first 100 people pay $4.99 once via PayPal for lifetime access—no monthly fee. Joining the waitlist is free. Pricing after the founder batch is not announced yet. The canvas remains invite-only during beta.

Is the editor public now?

No. During beta the canvas is invite-only. Preorder and waitlist users receive a private link when the next batch opens.

Can I use the figures in papers?

Yes. Exported SVG, PDF and draw.io files are standard vectors you own and can put in a manuscript. Publication is not gated on keeping a monthly subscription. Beta licence terms ship with your invite.

What does BioPlot.ai not do?

It does not replace scientific illustrators for covers or stylized 3D renders, it does not infer biological conclusions from raw experimental data, and it does not ship a 50k-icon clipart catalogue. It targets the mechanism and pathway cartoons labs redraw constantly, as editable scenes rather than one-shot AI pictures.
